I still do not understand what fuels the fear and loathing between U.S. and Russian governments.
Taking your lecture/rant at face value, it would be hard to see it any other way...
...and one has to assume the Russians are considered the enemy. But, I still find that one hard to swallow.
At least at the peon-to-peon level.  

Maybe they were (enemies) back when they were the Soviets and made a deal with Germany (who ended up attacking the Soviets anyway).
You know, the ol' my-enemy's-allies-are-my-enemies-too thing.
Then Germany back-stabbed them so the Soviets joined up with anyone who could help them survive.
Who could blame them? But we were never really friends.
We just wanted Russians to keep the east side of Germany busy. And they were very keen to do so.

Then a BIG factor in using nukes in Japan was the U.S. getting there first.
The Soviet **** in Germany was telling (warranted or not).
So this deep-seated fear/hatred seems to have roots before the world war era.

The feud between Moscow and the west is older than this country that we live in. Russia is just too **** big. The west has always recognized the frightening potential of owning half the world's resources, and it has never trusted the slavs with that much power.

I don't know whether you are aware of just how twisted the psyche of the British elite is. It's **** deep and wide in its sickness. I mean, it's so bad that there was a time the sun never sat on the British Empire because God Himself did not trust an Englishman in the dark. 

The Brits know how much evil THEY would get up to with such resources. They're keen to prove it, if they can break up Russia and dine on its corpse. What they are not keen to do and never have been keen to do is simply accept Russia's ownership of half the Asian continent. It's why they have always and forever been extremely interested in keeping the Russians from owning Crimea, and it's why they have always and forever been keen on having good relations with Turkey, which controls the Bosporus. 

The west is afraid of Russia, plain and simple. Always has been. And Putin gave the west every opportunity to put those fears to rest. He asked to join NATO - to share the same security architecture as the Europeans. The bloc that would have formed would have been invincible. But the assholes just could not bring themselves to play nice with Russia. To share power with Russia. Russia has had cooties for many, many centuries. It's the uncool kid that just will not recognize his place. 

The west are the beautiful people. The Russians are the earnest losers who just want good relations - a seat at the cool kids' table. They want in the club. 

We've all seen the movie a hundred times. We all know how it ends.
