Capitalism, by virtue of the disassociated and competitive humans at its helm, is by nature an entity that eventually needs to corrupt and manipulate, in order to survive the unfettered demands it creates for itself. There are no checks and balances within the entity capable of reining in its appetite for more of itself.
It's only the firm hand of a strong social order and their representatives that prevent it from corrupting the economy it operates in and destroying the society it depends on.
