Based on what I carry, I'd say I'm more closely aligned to your mindset. But, I'll admit, I have an infatuation with pretty guns. I've never carried one, but if I were ever invited to a formal event where everyone was carrying a pretty gun (BBQ gun), I have some GQ-approved, high fashion hardware - my wife wouldn't be embarrassed.
I recently sold a never-fired 38 year old Red Label OU 12 ga.
Figured I'd just bang it up bumping it around in the safe. Got a good price and some guy that likes pretty guns will be very happy with that heirloom. I just have changed in attitude over the years. My level of appreciation has waned.
So, I like a nice looking gun. Don't get me wrong. But here's something about a perfectly functioning tool with wear marks that I grew to like more.
