And don't bother mentioning proxies. I'm not interested in a discussion of proxies at all, unless those speaking of proxies are willing to admit without reservation that the US uses terrorist proxies in a manner equally abhorrent, even though the United States has more hard power than anyone in the game, which makes the US decision to use proxies less defensible.
Iran is now the tar baby that trump will sorely regret embracing - the US empire's Hardian's Wall.
From Trump's declaration of war on Iran going forward, American hard and soft power will only decrease. Iran was our Hadrian's Wall.
And plausible deniability (more PR really).
Still, the one thing people can point at is the obsessive stupidity of Iran pursuing the one thing that actually presents ammo to their opponents. Whether they like it or not, most folks don't trust them to be at all responsible with nukes.
