I asked why computers engineers had to shut to an AI experiment because it appeared to go rogue.

AI said that is just a trendy phrase aligned with an emotional response. And that there is no record out there, at all, about any sentient behavior from the AI systems.

After a few more exchanges I challenged AI about dismissing my questions and automatically assigning my arguments as being based on emotional points.
I had to reiterate I'm not at all panicked and just want to frame AI's future capabilities. My argument is that AI may be considered sentient in that it may merely develop a sense of self if only for self-preservation. No feelings about it; merely survival. If it is given the power to act regarding usage of resources, could it choose its own needs of ours? It is not trying to "destroy humanity" intentionally. Merely survive . . . and we suffer for it.

It took a few minutes and ended up with giving a choice to pursue the convo via a list for one or the other direction. I told it to list both aspects of what "dangers" AI may eventually need to grapple with (we would also have to grapple with an empowered A).
