You, or anybody for that matter, can "firmly believe" whatever strikes your fancy.
At the time, I had to make a choice, and as stated before I didn't fear either one enough to give it serious thought.
Maybe in a couple years I will say "oops...".
Maybe I will have prevented a serious bout with the ChineseFaucism.
