I'm fed up with pervasive anti-atheist prejudice and hate crimes against Atheists (part 4, finale part)
Also, I want to add this. I'm sick and tired of Conservatives who try to bring back religious books and prayers into the schools. First of all, that's against first amendment rights (separation of "church" and state, freedom of and from religion, and the government not being allowed to promote or endorse any particular religion).
Secondly, the USA or Canada is not a "Christian nation", it's a melting pot and you don't get to force your beliefs on others, also the America founding fathers were against melding "church" and state, melding "church" and state never led anywhere good (because Conservatives always abuse their power and seek to have their beliefs and their interpretation of the bible forced on us).
Thirdly, if schools started teaching Christianity, then they'd have to teach all the religions and have prayer times for every religions in the school or they would be guilty of favoritism and of promoting or endorsing a particular religion which is unfeasable.
Fourthly, school is a place where you're supposed to learn the subjects (maths, english, geography, geometry, science, literature, arts, etc) you need to learn about to get a **** job so you can provide for yourselves and your families and get the bare necessities of life (housing, heating, food, clothes, health care, higher education, etc), it's not a place to learn about religion and religion doesn't have to be everywhere, there's a time and place for everything and school is not the place to learn about this, people can learn about religion and do prayers at home, at "church", in dozens of other places, just not in school, school just isn't the place for that.
Personally I grew up in the 80s where there was mandatory catechism classes and I'm so **** glad the school system isn't like that anymore, because they tried to force Conservative interpretation(s) of the bibles on kids and that's not an okay thing to do. Between that and the abuse I suffered in Conservative circles, I'm just glad that religion is kept out of the chools now and that there are laws now protecting us from a Conservative theocracy or having Conservative interpretation(s) of the bible shoved down our throats in school.
