How did you conclude Food Stamps were a thing of the past??? Government websites continue to use that term, along with SNAP, EBT etc --- but it is all essentially the same, and very much alive and well sucking off those who actually pay their own bills...
You Leftists also try to sell the myth that before likeminded poverty pimps as yourself swept the land in a tsunami of handout programs, people were starving in the streets of America--- that is a lie... Go ahead and try to provide some credible statistic of a starvation rate in America, you won't find one , not even during the Depression.. You'll find about 1000 different guesses as to a hunger rate, though this is also concluded on emotion, and political driven methodology.. There has always been help before such, and it was a far better quality of assistance than a government handout.. .. It came from the recipients extended families -- neighbours -- communities -- Churches -- local food banks, reputable charities etc.. It was better because there was a human connection in that those who were given the help knew where it had come from, thus providing a greater appreciation and incentive to stand on their own feet.. Now it is primarily to shore up the Democrat voter base..
Perhaps you're old enough to recall when Food Stamps were limited to basic, nutrition oriented items which would sustain the recipient.. They were referred to as "No FRills" items.. But Progressives decided this was unfair, and that these people were entitled to consumer choice on someone else's Dime.. And what has the results been?... 2 of the biggest health issues of those on Food Stamps is Obesity and Diabetes.. Starving -- what a **** joke... I also remember when the Food Stamps were in the form of a paper booklet which the recipient would present to the cashier .. But this too was deemed unfair, and brought embarrassment on the recipient, so they were issued what looks like a Credit Card to hide the fact it was free.
