I doubt that Russia doesn't deal with foreigners trying to bring in cannabis oil routinely. There is no way that this is something new for them. However, she was an American that was caught during the worst time. She was caught a week before Russia invaded. The buildup of war was inevitable then. Russia wanted to use her as leverage against us, we didn't budge, so Russia said "**** you" America. That is why she got 9 yrs, not for carrying some stupid cannabis oil.

I don't proclaim to know a strategy to get her back. Putin is a **** psychopath. You can't reason with people like him. Some of us may not like her politics, but she is still one of us. She is still an American citizen, that makes her one of our own. This would have been great opportunity for unification across the country, but I see too many of my fellow righties not giving a ****. I find that disappointing, and even unpatriotic. Sure, kneeling for the anthem is also unpatriotic, but she never, to my knowledge, wished harm on her fellow Americans. She may be a pain in the ***, but she is our pain in the ***.  As long as one of our own is being **** over by a psychopathic leader, all Americans should put aside their hatred and go get her. Then once we have her back, we can go back to hating each other again.
Jailing Americans for bringing small amounts of Drugs into Russia did not begin with Griner--- though with her having some measure of celebrity status as a WNBA player, her case has been the most profiled...

In June 2022  a former US Embassy employee (and US Citizen) named Marc Fogel , who was employed as an English teacher was sentenced to 14 years in prison... He was caught bringing in a 1/2 Ounce of Marijuana, which he alleged was prescribed by a doctor stateside for pain management from back surgery..  This was in the same Russian Jurisdiction where Griner was sentenced... Neither Griner nor Fogel met Russia's own legal definition of substantial quantities of Drugs, yet both seemed to be charged with such.

Fogel's distressed family members in the States have been desperately trying to draw the same attention and political assistance that is being afforded to Griner--- to pretty much no avail... I can only imagine how they must feel... Any deals or offers put on the table regarding repatriation of Griner, should include the freeing Marc Fogel as well.. In fact, I feel far more sympathy for him, than the bitch with a face like a clenched fist.
