The only reason it lost some steam before it hit Florida was because it hit more of Cuba than was expected and that slowed it down.
It wasn't as bad in Miami as they thought it would be, but the Keys got hit pretty hard.
25% of Florida Keys houses were destroyed, 65% suffered damage and as many as 15 million Floridians have no power.
Then there is the massive flooding in Jacksonville, and now Charleston.
I would hardly call that fizzle, and I really don't understand this need to downplay the impact of the storm.

AS I said, the destruction in the islands was due in large part to very poor construction methods. As far as the keys, they have seen much worse and will rebuild (hemmingway's house had little damage) I am not saying it was a thunder cloud, I am saying the frikkin media went gonzo and it blew up in their face.

They scare the uninformed to death with storm surge predictions and 99% of the US population has no understanding of what surge actually is. As it closed in, it was obvious that it was overblown. On one hand you have the media screaming that we all bees gonna die, but while simultaneously looking at actual real time NOAA data, you go WTF are these idiots babbling about.
