Bench's Dad had his young son practice throwing from a squat to a point that was twice the distance that a normal throw down to second base would be.

Johnny was and always will be my favorite Red. I played catcher in my younger years and now I can't even get down on my haunches.
IMO there will never be another 15 year old MLB pitcher. Fun fact. Joe Nuxhall grew up in Hamilton, Ohio which is the town my dad lived in before he died.
