They obviously believed just that. They believed it would be a gun fight between Trump supporters and law enforcement, that it would devolve into something that would compare with 911 and pearl harbor. Instead they got a comparatively minor riot with protesters largely staying inside the velvet ropes and prayers for peace being said in the rotunda. Did we ever find out who planted the two pipe bombs on the secured grounds of the Capitol? Seemed to me like someone was planning to set those off but the chaos didn't reach a high enough level to provide cover.
