It was a planned photo op. Those pulling the strings hoped the magats brought their guns and the event would allow democrats to demonize Republicans at large. Fortunately this failed as the Trump crowd left their guns at home. Instead of the engineered mass casualty event, they got tourists largely staying inside the velvet ropes.
