I believe that this was not a 'good faith investment'. Instead, amazon simply wants to destroy the store. Why?
first of all...this:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/john-macke ... ge-grocer/
"That approach has infused his business — no matter how unorthodox. He lets his workers vote on whom to hire on their team, share in the profits and know what everyone else is being paid. They spend little on advertising, but give workers at each store $125,000 to spend on ideas to bring in new customers. In the Austin store, someone suggested an ice skating rink on the roof."
i dont think mackey is well educated on political ideology, but his intuition has apparently led him to a fascist business model (he himself would of course fervently deny it). And the whole employee voting on who they work with has of course resulted in the fact that almost all employees are white men.
let us also note that this clearly is diametrically opposed to amazon, which is known to treat its employees like ****.
it is also fairly clear from the way he dodges certain questions that his politics are probably not correct:
"I like to keep my political beliefs, beliefs about controversial issues, to myself. I don’t really want to talk about racism. I don’t want to talk about climate change. I don’t want to talk about riots or fires. I want to talk about conscious leadership. I’m happy to talk about what Whole Foods is doing in the world, but my personal beliefs are my own private beliefs."
