Yes, the term Assault Weapon was made up by the anti gun crowd.

You posted about Assault Rifles.  Two different things.  

You magazines about the type of weapon we were discussing before you got here. 

The Colt AR 15 Sporter and those that followed was not an assault rifle and was not marketed as one.

No, they didn't.  We are talking about Assault Weapons.  You posted about Assault Rifles.  The weapons this thread is about are NOT select fire weapons.  Posted this earlier:
