Sure there will be some areas crunched badly. Whenever I look to move (I check around a couple times each year), there are deals and there are way more non-deals. Everything is overpriced it seems.
I cannot find anything that fits as well as I already have. My area has been building up huge tracts for 20+ years. Golf courses, farms, horse tracks, etc. are disappearing for the new developments.
When I decide to downsize and stick to building birdhouses in a tiny workshop, I can very easily do that. By then a property with acreage will be even more desirable.

Calamitous future can be how others see the world. I have seen these hyperbolic personalities come and go for my entire life. Lots of posters here ride that wave. At worst, I see it as dying with a whimper, not a bang. Which it is. Just have to look around.

Are there any actual doomsday preppers that are entrepreneurs?
If so, they are some really conflicted people.  Image
You never really know what is going on behind the computer screen. People make all kinds of financial decisions as best they can in the moment. When Vegas became a member on this forum in 2014, the median home price in Las Vegas was $204k with interest rates just above 4%.  Now that median is closer to $450k.  and 8+%. Add in nine years worth of rent (we paid $28,000 in rent for 2022 while the house was built and live 500 miles from Vegas) and you get quite a large missed opportunity to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars at a minimum. Everyone has a story and no two are the same.

I moved from a town where the median home price hit $800k and the median price almost tripled from 2014 to 2021. There is something to be said about being at the right place at the right time and being in a position to take advantage of such an increase. That is not normally the outcome for most people. I didn't even blink at paying cash in an area where the median is around $400k.

Just blame the Boomers, it's all their fault. Life was handed to them on a silver platter.
