Such warfare relies heavily on an element that has been largely overlooked by great power competition-focused strategists: proxy forces, which are actors outsourced to supplement or help the patron achieve its goals."

Largely overlooked, ya say. What was al qaeda in Afghanistan against the Soviets? What were the Kurds against Assad? What were the Contras in Nicaragua? What were the  UNITA and FNLA rebel groups in Angola?

Both the Soviets and the Western Bloc fought nothing BUT proxy wars for decades.

When your very first paragraph starts with a lie so blatant that it is insulting to one's intelligence, the rest of your NAMBLA screed is unfit for **** tickets.

I pass. And you should have, too. You should be unwilling to proffer a source that begins with a steaming pile like that.
Ok, try this source.
