Some interesting information on current hurdles to accurate polling:2. Partisan and "Herding" Manipulation • Selective Releasing: Partisan groups or campaigns frequently commission private polls. If a poll shows their candidate losing, they bury it; if it shows them winning, they release it to the media. This artificially floods the media ecosystem with favorable numbers.
 • Herding: Near the end of an election cycle, some low-tier pollsters tweak their models to align with the industry average. They do this because they fear the reputational damage of being a public outlier, effectively destroying the independence of their data. 3. Outright Fabrication and Scams The polling ecosystem faces direct security threats that actively compromise data integrity:
 • Fabricated Polls: Bad actors have successfully introduced entirely fake numbers into mainstream politics. For example, a mysterious entity called Median Strategies published entirely fabricated election polls across multiple states. The fake data was amplified by major campaigns and temporarily shifted prices on prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi before being retracted.
 • AI Bot Infiltration: According to research published by Dartmouth University, autonomous AI bots have become sophisticated enough to bypass 99.8% of standard fraud-detection checks on online polls. The study demonstrated that it takes as few as 10 to 52 synthetic AI respondents to completely flip the leader in a close election poll.
