They are getting worse, and coming more often. Once in a century floods are happening every couple of years.
Even here I am noticing the changes. I lived in this area during the 80's; before I moved back down to Chicago. Absolutely brutal winters. Massive snow and freezing temps for about 3 months. The winters here have been short and pretty mild for about the last decade. Some bad snowstorms, but the weather turns nice and it melts away. The temps have been around 40 degrees off and on for the last month. I drove down to Madison on Tuesday, and everyone was wearing light jackets. Most of the time we have really cold weather for a couple of weeks, and then it is over for the year.
I've seen the gradual warming of winters here, just like the Southwest has noticed the increased number of brutally hot days.
