It wasn't racist.
But Warren claiming to be part Indian was racist and Indians criticized her for claiming to be something that she is not.
You know Andy Borowitz writes satire, right?

Elizabeth Warren was only repeating what she had been told by her family.
A Genealogist named Chris Child said that she actually does have a Native American ancester.

In her application to Rutgers, when asked if she wanted to apply for admission under the school’s Program for Minority Group Students, she answered NO.

And she listed herself as WHITE in her employment documents at the University of Texas.

And as for her job at Harvard:
The Herald twice quoted Charles Fried, the head of the Harvard appointing committee that recommended Warren for her position in 1995, said that her heritage didn’t come up during the course of her hiring.

“It simply played no role in the appointments process,” he said.
“It was not mentioned and I didn’t mention it to the faculty.”

The Herald later quoted Fried, a former U.S. Solicitor General under President Ronald Reagan, saying, “I can state categorically that the subject of her Native American ancestry never once was mentioned.”

So she never used a claim to be Native American to further either her education or her career.
That was a lie initiated by Scott Brown when he ran against her, and now perpetrated by 45.
