Republicans were the majority party in the Senate at the time (55) and only 45 voted for conviction on the perjury charge, and 50 on the obstruction charge.


So it looks like some members in your party were 'protecting' him.

There were only two articles of impeachment.
Perjury and obstruction of justice, period.

The abuse of power charge was voted down with even 81 Republicans voting against it.
