In the woman's march to Versailles, gates were also opened. And i mean that literally...yes the mob brought a few cannons so they could have dealt with the gates if th3y killed the guards but the gates were opened. Nobody in the French military resisted. The french guards were killed anyway. Then they abducted louis xviii and carried him back to Paris.
