That's because Indians don't:

• Have any concept of educating their young during the morning hours of daylight
• understand manufacturing, or work in general
• or understand the basics of farming.

When your women weave rugs and you trade the state of New York for some pretty beads, it is stupid to think such a species would have any concept of maximizing human industriousness during daylight hours.
