One of my very basic filters in navigating people and agendas is guns.
It's a polarizing coarse filter that nearly instantly partitions issues, groups, individuals.
Some people think abortion is oh-so-important. That's their filter.
Partisan hacks, religion, family ties, etc. Those mean a lot to some folks... just not to me.
It's quite obvious what yours is, of course.
This doesn't mean people have just one but, having that big basic separator simplifies so many things.
case in point. Just now I heard an npr story crying about how jews in ivy league are being told to check their privilege...lol
