Nor is it to topple the US dollar as the world's reserve currency (which is also a wrong assertion).
And, other nations are free to form economic alliances - I see no threat from BRICS either.
You still haven't explained why gold backing the US dollar is something I should champion.
While you may curtail inflation by going on the gold standard, you will also have more frequent depressions where dollars/gold are so scarce that people simply starve to death.
I don't follow anything you say about "fixing international rates between countries" our "reducing uncertainty in international trade" as being products of going back on the gold standard. And, I don't even know if I care or want these things to be addressed.
But what is inevitable is that 3/4 of the world's population is returning to the gold standard and not your grampy's gold standard ....
also as those countries start returning to their new gold standard ...the US dollar will start to dramatically lose it's value which is already starting to occur now when it comes to buying power abroad and is reflected in the huge inflationary costs here and now for products from abroad.
Then add in that massive western debt that can never be repaid .....what you have is a recipe for disaster ....and it's closer than you think .
