It sounds like a pretty standard service... I guess your focus on this certain passage seemed poignant when the Bible is rife with things we may find disturbing, even in the NT...

while everyone has their personal view of GOD, I see HIM as a GOD of wrath, HE isn't fair, HE's just and everybody's fair haired, blue eyed JESUS, who is GOD, will come to destroy the nations...but that's just me...
