The word "remain" is a bit tricky. England survived with its government intact, and I believe that Portugal soldiered on under the same civil administration. Spain's monarchy survived the spanish american war, which I believe we can agree was the end of spain's empire. But the italian government ended and was replaced by an american proxy at the end of empire.
