Contrary to what you and others would probably assume, I am not an expert on Russian history. Letting them beat themselves against a slow moving wall lets the Ukes reflect on this with different eyes. It allows more dissension among the ranks to develop as opportunities to stop keep passing them by.

btw Putin's take on history (Tucker Carlson interview) wasn't accurate and was basically irrelevant, but that part doesn't matter. The current situation taken at face value is what's important.
