Reagan took eight years to barely beat Carter, when you consider the larger population he had to work with and the 2 trillion dollars he injected - through profligate borrowing - into the economy.
And don;t forget that Reagan pretended to "create" the jobs of illegals to whom he gave amnesty - those jobs were now counted officially instead of being part of the underground economy.
