The leading maple syrup-producing states include Vermont, New York, Maine, and Wisconsin. These states benefit from a combination of ideal climate conditions, abundant sugar maple trees, and a rich tradition of maple sugaring.

Is Canadian or Vermont maple syrup better?

There is actually no difference in maple syrup despite marketing attempts that tell you otherwise. All the sap comes from maple trees in the northern climates and there are strict grading requirements for syrup

So, as you can see.....
America doesn't need Canadian maple syrup due to several states producing the exact same product....

Who is the largest consumer of maple syrup?
The U.S.
North America. North America holds a major part in the maple syrup market share and was valued at USD 1.09 billion in 2023. The U.S. is the largest importer of this product and accounts for the highest market share.
