REALLY?

Location, location, location, FFS - are we done?

But you - YOU - you want the cheap real estate. The real estate without all those pesky people about. So wtf are you bitching about? You can buy 30 acres with soil that perks and good ground water for the price of a common sedan.

I choose to live away from the madding crowd. I have lived in Vegas, L.A., SF - Provo and Myrtle Beach, Saint Petersburg and Madeira Island in FL. I've lived in the deep woods of the Olympic Peninsula and in Colorado Springs. I've lived on a lake, on a river, and less than a mile from salt. I've experienced urban, suburban and rural life - and I have to say, I have enjoyed all of them, for different reasons. What I never did do is bitch about them. I didn't even bitch about L.A. traffic. I accepted it as a fact of life, and made my plans accordingly.

Today, I have to drive two hours to shop anywhere but wally. Sams and Costco are two hours away, and Restaurant Supply is 3.5. If I were the bitching kind, that is what I would bitch about. I'm not, so I don't. I just do the drive, and I ENJOY the **** drive.

You can sell and move, or grumble and groan. It looks to me like you've made your choice. You wish you could eliminate people, but you cannot. I really think you need to take a swim in Lake You, and make a decision to be happy where you are, or go where you will be happy. Contrary to your current way of seeing things, being happy does not require genocide. Unless you're Israeli - I don't judge.

Urban corridors certainly have upsides. Low land use, fantastic shopping, you can ditch your car as I did in SF, and any time you need wheels just rent them. You'll spend much less that way, leaving you much more discretionary income. I don't care who you are or what you drive, you're gonna spend a minimum of 6k per annum on wheels. If you're only spending a small portion of that on occasional rentals, you have that much more to spend elsewhere.

Yeah, toll ways are a comer, and express lanes too. I paid for both in Florida and Texas. I recommend you look at some of the trade-offs you're ignoring. And if you don't find the perks to meet or exceed the downsides, muh-ooove. Your house, from the sounds of it, is worth several times what you paid for it. You could live on a river in a perfectly lovely home with acreage, and have money left over for a boat and fishing gear.

By the way, you don't have to be "rich" to use toll roads and express lanes. How you spend your money is a value statement. If you value that express lane, you'll pay. If you don't, you won't. You just have to consider that money worth spending, or you have to be content with the hurly burly of peonage. And you COULD make a game of it - count lip and eyebrow rings during your tedious, stop-and-go commutes.
So even though you dream of a world where you would be rubbing elbows with trillions of people you choose to live in dry, miserably hot, dusty and desolate   DEVIL'S GULCH, TEXAS.... Image
What difference is there between you and someone like BV who professes to love ****** yet chooses to live where ****** are only 1.3% of his local population...?     Image
