They might just be trying to remind us that they're not girls, in case we're confused and try to **** em out of more than just their sovereignty.
I wouldn't mistake their hostility for some festering, years long, Great Satan style grudge. It was more of a, "Hey, **** you and the orange dumpster fire you rode in on."
Give em a few weeks to walk it off, and they'll being giving it 110% again.
