Israel wasn't considered a nation centuries ago. It was an idea, not a country. So no, that is incorrect.

Take a look at a map of the ancient Israelites. It is currently a small fraction of what it once was. The boundaries were a little blurry back then but you can see they have been squeezed out just as many others have been.
