After 9/11, our soldiers had to deal with the same thing in Afghanistan. They would use women and children as shields and hide out in their home while firing at the marines. We had ground troops that went from house to house to weed them out. We didn't take out the whole damn village. Israel could have done the same.
Actually, we killed lots of women and children. Or, did you forget the thousands of airstrikes against Taliban and Al-Qaeda targets following 9-11? Almost 4,000 civilians were killed in the air campaign alone. And, 46,000 Afghani civilians were killed during the war.
Israel has kept the civilian casualties to about one-third that of the US-Afghan war.
