In an effort to reduce spending, President Donald Trump’s administration has put an end to all federal news subscriptions deemed “non-mission critical.” Procurement teams were instructed to prioritize the termination of contracts with specific news organizations, including The Economist, The New York Times, and Reuters. Amid the cancellations, multiple news organizations have rallied in support of the Associated Press (AP) in its ongoing dispute with the Trump administration regarding press access.
Trump added, “It’s called the Gulf of America now. … They’re doing us no favors and I guess I’m not doing them any favors. That’s the way life works.”
