According to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said "And if you are willing to accept it, he (John the Baptist) is the Elijah who was to come." This is a far cry different from ordinary people claiming to have had past lives.

Furthermore, I do not take every part of the Bible literally.  While I believe there is overall historical relevance to much of what was written in the Bible, I also recognize that there is a huge lack of continuity in both the Old Testament and New Testament, and some obvious attempts made to reconcile these two texts.

Third, I do not actually believe that Donald Trump is the literal reincarnation of Andrew Jackson. Well, maybe he is, but obviously have no proof of it.  Still, I do find accounts of individuals who have died for a short period of time and been brought back to life very interesting.  I find myself believing some of these accounts, or at least opening my mind to the possibility of what they are saying is true.
matthew 11

11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.

john the baptist was born from a woman like all men

---but john was not angel----- but a mere mortal
