The petro dollar is history. What is propping up the dollar now, as far as I can tell, is just habit.
And BTW, the Sauds are paling up to Trump's enemies. But where interests converge, time to move, I guess.
Habit may be a major part of it, no doubt. Status quo in lieu of fear of the unknown.
Also, it isn't like the dollar instantly went to zero value (as you alluded). There's still something there.
...maybe the decimal point moved over, but it ain't zeroed out just yet.
