It is always and forever the same thing. One carrot, one stick. A carrot is unreliable. A stick is unreliable. A carrot and a stick in concert are almost completely irresistible. I believe the last - possibly the only - person to resist that combinations was Jesus Christ. And possibly your avatar, Forrest Gump. But he didn't know he was doing it, so it might not count.
