Believe me... I live in California these days.. and I SEE people being unhappy with Democrat leadership... THEY SEE the stupidity.  The drip, drip, drip has been because the Democrat bureaucracy did to California what they were trying to do to America... by EMPOWERING the Bureaucrats, LYING to the people... and over time... getting the people to believe the lies..   THAT appears to be changing now, and Donald Trump has been a big part of it... 

WHY?  4 years ago Donald Trump TOLD the California leadership that they were mismanaging their forests and green areas... that NOT clearing out dead trees and brush would ENCOURAGE fires, that NOT taking preemptive steps to cut fire breaks, pruning and clearing was NOT a good idea... Sure enough... the So Calif. FIRE FIASCO opened MANY peoples eyes... AND, Not to mention the LA river which MOST Californians believed was DRY because of "Climate Change"... Donald Trump "called out" the Governor and Mayor (when he was out here), told them they were diverting water into the OCEAN UNNECESSARILY (because of the "delta Smelt"), and told them to "open the spigots" !!  well, it turned out that they weren't "spigots" but they WERE diverting water AWAY from Los Angeles, and AWAY from the local farmers, and Southern California people... and Trump evidently sent his people and FORCED the CA Bureaucrats to open the gates... AND NOW, WE are seeing WATER in the LA River for the first time in decades....

AND PEOPLE (i.e the California PEOPLE), are beginning to SEE the Liberal Democrats for the LIARS that they are !!!

I believe what you're saying. My little challenge was merely about groupthink mentality.
When I was living there years ago, I did try to embrace the environment (social and geological).
Mainly I went away annoyed with most people.
The state needs to be chopped in half. 9th circuit divided into quarters.
