I have a friend that gets into good conversations with me.
We have a similar outlook on survival.
The old joke comes to mind about outrunning an enraged bear.
"I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you."
We joke about the hoarders of gold too.
That kind of metal is only good while there's enough belief that society HASN'T collapsed.
When gold hits $5000 an ounce, who will buy it? The gold store will be closed.
Seems to me that whatever people did, owned, knew, around 1900 would be a great survival ethic.
