At one time, the right to self repair was a goal the government was attempting to enforce. There is some ancient legislation which tried to protect the rights that the shyt we buy doesn't cost a fortune to maintain.

60 Minutes did a segment on the subject. A Farmer could not get the John Deere 300K Combine running for 6 weeks.  The shop had the software and know how locked up.  He lost 300K$ in wheat due to missed window of harvest.  It turned out it was 15 minute fix and a <500$ part.

Software and Controls are integral to Refrigeration.  No one shares their crystal ball on repairs. I have been in the Industry two years. The knowledge is scattered, hidden, and difficult to navigate to an answer. But I am starting to get caught up and the witch has provided me some insight.  Except it feels like I could be cooked in the pot at any moment right now.

Freaking phone screens should snap in and out.  With the tariffs, pretty soon only the oligawks will be looking at social media on the crapper anyway. I see the devices getting enormously expensive.
