Tipping should only be done if service is at minimum good.....too many times it's not.
There are tip jars in convenience stores.....even seen self checkouts prompt you to tip the machine.
Rounding up at the cash register for some particular cause, usual leftist, is more and more common to...great tax deduction for the businesses doing the collection....and you get to have someone else decide who your charities are like it or not
