In 2023, China's average tariff rate decreased to 7.3% from 7.4% in 2022. This involved adjustments to both import and export tariffs, including waivers for certain medical goods, increased tariffs on some commodities, and provisional tariff rates for specific items. The adjustments aimed to connect domestic and international resources and markets, with a focus on expanding imports of medical supplies, high-quality consumer goods, energy resources, and IT products, according to Deloitte.

China has imposed a minimum 125% tariff on US goods in response to increased tariffs on Chinese goods by the US. This retaliatory tariff was introduced as part of the ongoing trade war between the two countries.
