Why do people feel so entitled these days to big tips? Years ago 10% was the standard. Now it's 18, 20 or 25%. WTF. Prices have gone up. With a $10 bill they got a buck. Now the bill is $100 so $10 tip is not good enough. With prices going up, tips go up. Why does the percentage go up too? Some say if you can't afford to tip, don't go out. So they would rather have nothing.? Restaurant goes out of business they lose their job. Don't get me wrong, I tip plenty, but we do not go out near as often.
It is my opinion that every man's worst critic is himself. I do not believe that many men escape the curse of self-flagellation. No one's life is made better by looking in the mirror and not liking what you see. But it happens to most of us, and I am not an exception.
I have developed an operative practice to deal with those 3am moments when a wakeup piss turns into a self deprecation moment. I pay my way and a bit more, and I tip handsomely. In fine, I maintain the being of myself as a sport. So when I get down on myself, and I catch myself in the mirror and am not flattered by what I see, I can at least look myself dead in the eye and say, "I am a sport. I pay my way, and consequently, no one winces when I enter or breathes in relief when I leave." That is a balm in the horrid ontological nightmare that life can become in any given moment.
