To be clear, I consider Iran to be Israel's neighbor. Just as I consider Costa Rica and Cuba and El Salvador to be America's neighbors.

Well, you're geographically challenged, I see. Cuba is 80 miles from the US, so yes, I might consider Cuba a neighbor.  Costa Rica and El Salvador - they are not neighbors of the US.  Air miles, they are about 1,100 air miles away.  Russia is closer to the US than that, and I don't consider Russia our neighbor. Greenland is closer than either Costa Rica or El Salvador. 

Iran is about 1,100 air miles from Israel.  That's further away than Russia is to Israel.
