The U.S. Coast Guard has significantly increased its operational presence at the southwestern border with Mexico to combat drug and alien smuggling. Coast Guard District Eleven (D11) has deployed three times as many personnel and ships, resulting in a 75% rise in illegal alien apprehensions.
In recent months, the Coast Guard has achieved record drug seizures, including over $500 million worth of cocaine from South America. The operations intercepted over 68,000 pounds of cocaine and 4,200 pounds of marijuana.
More Coast Guard Ships Deployed to Border
