When it comes to actual legislation signed, Bush Jr was actually an incredibly accomplished President, particularly if you look at bipartisan support. NCLB passed in a landslide, (at the time)the largest expansion of permanent Federal subsidies to alternative energy and efficiency, major increases in fuel efficiency, the creation of the largest marine wildlife preserves in the world TWICE, toughest child sex crime laws in the world, and the largest expansion of veteran benefits and pensions in the history of the United States.
When you look at the numbers, he sucked. No Child Left With a Behind was a terrible failure. He doubled the debt. He fought wars on credit cards instead of manning up and putting his REAL debts on the books. he invaded a nation on cooked intel the HE cooked (or that a vice president he could not control cooked - you choose; I'm good with either positon). He ran on fiscal restraint, yet saddled the nation with new entitlement spending for the next 100 years.
He regularized torture, mangling a human rights record which was somehow making most of the world forget how we treated the natives. I so doing, he violated international law which THIS COUNTRY was more than instrumental - PIVOTAL AND INDESPENSIBLE - in creating. He has international warrants for his arrest as a human rights criminal and cannot travel as a result. He has purchased property in Paraguay against the possibility of having to hide from extradition.
I say, on balance, the *** sucked.
