In 2017, President Trump's nominee to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Representative Tom Marino, withdrew his name from consideration after a joint "60 Minutes" and Washington Post report revealed he had sponsored a bill that significantly weakened the DEA's ability to combat the opioid epidemic. The law made it more difficult for the DEA to freeze suspicious large-scale shipments of opioid pills by drug distributors.
