While President Trump has previously dismissed the climate crisis as a “hoax,” the paradoxical situation has emerged where he is fixated on Greenland—a region whose value has surged as a result of climate change.The Washington Post reported on the 18th, “The Arctic is warming approximately four times faster than the rest of the world, exposing natural resources and opening new maritime routes.” It added, “The opportunities and potential conflicts arising from the changing Arctic environment are critically influencing Trump’s pursuit of acquiring Greenland.” During his September address at last year’s UN General Assembly, Trump stated, “Climate change is the biggest hoax in history” and claimed, “These predictions were made by stupid people, and they are all wrong.” John Conger, a senior advisor at the U.S. Center for Climate and Security, told The New York Times, “Trump’s obsession with Greenland is tantamount to admitting that climate change is real.”
