Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth got into a tense exchange with a CNN reporter Wednesday over the cost of U.S. intervention in Venezuela, accusing the outlet of being “disingenuous” in its coverage of last week’s military operation.
“The question’s never asked [of] how much does it cost when they’re in the Mediterranean or the Red Sea or the Indian Ocean or the Pacific,” Hegseth said Wednesday in response to a question about how much the mission would cost American taxpayers. “But now that they’re in our hemisphere on a countercartel mission or ensuring that indicted individual comes to justice, now you’re asking the question of cost.”
